This stunning burgundy cotton Ceil Chapman set is a New Look masterpiece with its architectural texture and beautiful details. The fabric has been folded into triangular pleats and sewn down to create an almost "popcorn" effect. The blouse features a Victorian-inspired silhouette with high neck, nipped in waist, turned back cuffs, and a row of tiny buttons. Skirt is fitted at the waist with dramatically flared circle cut and metal zipper at the side.
Ceil Chapman was an American fashion designer who worked in New York City from the 1940s to the 1960s and was noted for creating glamorous cocktail and party dresses and for working with celebrity clients including Deborah Kerr, Greer Garson, Grace Kelly and Aretha Franklin. Ceil Chapman was reportedly Marilyn Monroe's favorite fashion designer. Chapman provided the trousseau for Elizabeth Taylor's 1950 wedding to Conrad "Nicky" Hilton and won numerous awards.
